Patrick has over 40 years of professional experience, 30 of them in his own company Systems Modelling Ltd. in Ireland. His current focus is on spreadsheet control and auditing. He is the author of ‘Spreadsheet Check and Control’, ISBN 190540400X.
He developed the Excel add-ins ScanXLS and XLTest which are used to assess spreadsheet quality and structural integrity.
He is also the Technical Director of the Informatics and Social Development Research Institute (IDI); a Fellow of the Irish Computer Society; sometime chair of the European Spreadsheet Risk Interest Group (EuSpRIG), and of the Software Testing Interest Group in Ireland (SoftTest). He frequently presents talks on spreadsheet risk to ISACA, EuSpRIG, the UK Excel User Conference, and other interest groups.
He has extensive experience in general IT consultancy, systems selection, and software maintenance for businesses. His interest is in practical, effective solutions to systems problems, with a focus on the real objectives to be attained.
He is the author of ‘Managing the Euro in Information Systems’ ISBN 0201604825. Prior to setting up Systems Modelling Ltd he worked as a business analyst in Operations Research for Irish Fertiliser Industries, applying linear programming for production optimisation and project financial modelling.
